BEIJING, April 4 (Xinhua) -- Here are the latest Chinese sports headlines from the past week:
1. China's ZXMOTO claims historic WorldSSP wins at WSBK Portuguese round
Chinese motorcycle manufacturer ZXMOTO has secured a landmark double victory in the World Supersport (WorldSSP) category at the Portuguese round of the Superbike World Championship, marking a breakthrough for the country's presence in top-level production-based racing.
Valentin Debise powered the ZXMOTO 820RR-RS to victory in WorldSSP Race 1 on March 28, starting from second on the grid before taking the lead early and controlling the race to finish 3.685 seconds ahead of Spain's Jaume Masia.
The team followed up with another win in Race 2 on March 29, underlining the competitiveness of the Chinese-developed machine across the weekend.
ZXMOTO, based in Chongqing, was founded in April 2024 by entrepreneur Zhang Xue. The company unveiled its first model at the Chongqing International Motorcycle Trade Exhibition in September that year, with initial deliveries beginning in March 2025.
2. Sun, Wang among 5 Chinese paddlers making last eight at Macao World Cup
Five Chinese paddlers, including world No. 1s Sun Yingsha and Wang Chuqin, have advanced to the quarterfinals of the ITTF Men's and Women's World Cup in Macao, China.
In the women's singles round of 16, Sun beat Kuai Man 4-2 in an all-Chinese clash, while Wang Manyu produced a 4-0 victory over Japan's Mima Ito on April 2. Wang Yidi also advanced with a 4-1 victory over Japan's Miwa Harimoto.
The other Chinese female quarterfinalist is Chen Xingtong, who outlasted Puerto Rico's Adriana Diaz 4-2 on April 3.
Wang Chuqin battled past 19-year-old French star Felix Lebrun 4-2 on April 3, becoming China's only male player left in the competition.
3. Torch relay for 6th Asian Beach Games held in Sanya
The torch relay for the 6th Asian Beach Games was held in Sanya, south China's Hainan Province, on March 30, with 74 torchbearers carrying the flame along a 10.5-kilometer route linking scenic spots along Sanya Bay.
The one-day relay featured a flame-collection ceremony, a launching ceremony and a flame-lighting ceremony.
The 6th Asian Beach Games will be held in Sanya from April 22 to 30, featuring 14 sports, 15 disciplines and 62 events.
4. China's Zhao sets women's Asian hammer record
Olympic bronze medalist Zhao Jie became the first Asian female hammer thrower to break the 78-meter barrier as the 23-year-old achieved 78.22m in a Chinese national throws meeting in Chengdu on April 3.
Four days after improving her personal best mark by one centimeter to 77.61m, Zhao maintained her momentum with a first round effort of 77.31m to take the lead and went on to hurl 78.22m in the second round to seal the win.
Zhao's winning mark beat the previous Asian record of 77.68m set by compatriot Wang Zheng in 2014, also in Chengdu.
5. China finishes with 13 golds at World Junior Wushu Championships
The 10th World Junior Wushu Championships concluded on March 30 after six days of competition, with China collecting 13 gold and four silver medals to finish second in the medal standings.
Hong Kong, China topped the table with 13 gold, seven silver and six bronze medals, while Indonesia placed third with nine gold, 11 silver and seven bronze medals.
A total of 1,179 participants from 78 countries and regions took part in this year's event, making it the largest in the tournament's history. 16 delegations won gold medals, while 29 reached the podium, underscoring the sport's expanding global reach and rising competitiveness.
