Balochistan [Pakistan], April 3 (ANI): Despite claims of an overall reduction in violence across Pakistan in the first quarter of 2026, the security situation in Balochistan has sharply worsened, raising serious concerns about the state's counterinsurgency narrative, as reported by The Balochistan Post.
According to The Balochistan Post, a recent report by the Centre for Research and Security Studies reveals that violent incidents in Balochistan have more than doubled, recording a 104 per cent increase.
Fatalities in the province surged from 217 to 443, marking the deadliest quarter in over a decade. The province alone accounted for 55 per cent of all violence-related deaths nationwide.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa saw a relative decline in casualties, while Balochistan has moved in the opposite direction, becoming the epicentre of escalating conflict. Analysts warn that this divergence exposes the uneven impact of Pakistan's security policies.
The report also points to a worrying evolution in militant strategies. Armed groups are increasingly deploying sophisticated weapons, improvised explosive devices, and even drone technology, making attacks more coordinated and deadlier. These tactical shifts have significantly amplified both the scale and impact of violence in the region.
The surge has been linked to intensified operations by groups such as the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan and various Baloch pro-independence organisations. Recent high-profile incidents, including the hijacking of the Jaffar Express last year and the launch of 'Operation Herof II' by the Baloch Liberation Army, highlight the growing operational capacity of insurgent factions, as highlighted by The Balochistan Post.
The latest wave of coordinated attacks has targeted military personnel and key state infrastructure, leading to continued casualties and significant material damage. Clashes between security forces and armed groups remain frequent, further destabilising the province. Although authorities highlight a broader national decline in violence, the worsening crisis in Balochistan threatens to overshadow these gains, as reported by The Balochistan Post. (ANI)
