Tiruchendur (Tamil Nadu) [India], July 11 (ANI): Devotees gathered at the beach near the Arulmigu Subramaniya Swamy Temple on the full moon day of the Aani Tamil month to worship Lord Murugan.
The Aani month (also called Aani Masam) is the third month in the Tamil Calendar and holds a significant place for various religious and cultural practices among Tamil communities.
The Arulmigu Subramaniya Swamy Temple, also known as the Tiruchendur Murugan Temple, is a significant Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Murugan and is located in Tiruchendur, Tamil Nadu, India.
It is one of the six abodes of Lord Murugan, known as 'Arupadaiveedu'.
Meanwhile, preparations are underway at the ancient Thirupparankundram Murugan Temple, located near Madurai in Tamil Nadu, to host its Kumbabishekam (consecration ceremony) on July 14, a spiritually significant event in the Hindu religion.
Thirupparankundram Murugan Temple is also one of the six temples of Lord Murugan.
The Kumbabishekam is a ritual performed once every 12 years or following major renovations, and involves the ceremonial sanctification of the temple's deities and structures.
The Thirupparankundram Murugan Temple is considered one of the holiest sites for devotees of Lord Murugan. It is traditionally believed to be the site where Murugan married Deivayanai, daughter of Indra, after his victory over the demon Surapadman.
The temple is known not only for its religious significance but also for its architecture. It is believed to have been built by the Pandyas as early as the 6th century. The temple is carved directly into a massive rock hill and is famous for its rock-cut architecture, sculptures, and mandapams (halls).
Apart from being the abode of Lord Murugan, the temple also has idols of Shiva, Vishnu, Ganesh and Durga.
The temple is also considered a venue for marriages. There is a belief that couples who marry here will enjoy a blessed and prosperous life.
Throughout the year, the temple hosts several major festivals, including Skanda Shasti in October or November, Panguni Uthiram in March, Vaikasi Visakam in May or June, Aadi Krithigai, and Thai Poosam in January or February. These festivals attract thousands of worshippers who come to perform rituals, offer prayers, and take part in vibrant religious celebrations. (ANI)
