YANGON, July 10 (Xinhua) -- The water levels of major rivers in Myanmar have exceeded the warning mark in five towns across the country on Thursday, Myanmar's weather agency said.
The country's Department of Meteorology and Hydrology said that the water levels of Chindwin and Sittaung rivers have risen above the warning mark in the towns of Paungbyin, Mawlaik, Kalewa, Mingin, and Madauk.
The agency has urged residents living near riverbanks and in low-lying areas of these towns to take precautionary measures.
Heavy rains have been affecting parts of the country in recent days, causing floods in many areas.
July and August are the middle of the rainy season in Myanmar, and heavy rains are typical during this period.
