LAHORE, Pakistan - Former Prime Minister Imran Khan questioned Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's "shamelessness" in a social media post criticizing the government's performance over the last ten months on Friday morning.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman said on Twitter he doesn't recognize this "imported government installed through conspiracy and horse-trading."
Shifting his focus to premier Sharif, he questioned him on his government's "destruction" over the last ten months it has been in control of Pakistan's economy and democracy with what Imran referred to as "brazen fascism, end of fundamental rights and the rule of law and allowing terrorism to spread under its watch."
Along with his harsh criticism of the government, the PTI chair shared an image that listed the names of people, mostly PTI politicians but also some journalists, who had been arrested or had cases filed against them, were allegedly tortured, killed, or were the target of a targeted attack in the previous ten months. It also called the Supreme Court's role into question.
The PTI chief's latest scolding of the incumbent government comes after the PM invited Imran to an all-parties conference (APC) on February 7 in Islamabad to find solutions to Pakistan's challenging economic and political crises.
The invitation is a significant development because the PDM-led government and the PTI have always been at odds on almost every national issue.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz and Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah will attend an apex committee meeting Friday at Governor House in Peshawar. The Peshawar corps commander, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa inspector-general, and heads of other institutions will all be present. Following the tragedy in Peshawar two days ago that claimed more than a hundred lives, critical decisions regarding law and order and terrorism may be made.
