DHAKA, Bangladesh - On Friday, authorities claimed to have apprehended a top leader of the banned militant group Harkat-ul-Jihad-al Islami Bangladesh (Huji-B), who was recruiting Rohingyas in exchange for donations.
Fakhrul Islam, the arrested man, had visited Afghanistan and met with al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden and Taliban leader Mullah Omar while receiving advanced weaponry training.
Fakhrul, 58, and his son Saiful Islam, 24, paid several visits to the Rohingya camps. They intended to hold training for Huji members in Bandarban.
On Friday, the police Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit apprehended Fakhrul and five other members of the banned militant group in various parts of Dhaka.
On Friday, Md Asaduzzaman, CTTC chief, briefed the media at the DMP Media Center.
