WASHINGTON D.C.: Pentagon officials have announced that an arms package has been approved for Ukraine worth $1.1 billion, which includes 18 High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) made by Lockheed Martin, accompanying munitions, counter drone systems and radar.
The package could be delivered in between 6 and 24 months after the start of the procurement process.
The Biden administration will use funds from the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative appropriated by the U.S. Congress to purchase weapons from industry, instead of shipping existing U.S. weapons stocks to Ukraine.
The package includes some 150 vehicles, 40 trucks and 80 trailers for transporting heavy equipment, as well as 2 radar systems for tracking drones.
With the announcement, the U.S. would have sent security assistance to Ukraine worth $16.2 billion since Russia invaded on 24th February.
