CHITTAGONG, Bangladesh - On Tuesday night, a band of robbers raped a female passenger after hijacking a bus and stealing the valuables of other passengers in Tangail, Bangladesh.
The members of the gang fled from the bus in the Raktipara area early Wednesday morning.
The 30-year-old rape survivor reported the rape and robbery to the Madhupur police station.
Tangail General Hospital is currently treating the victim.
Quoting passengers, Tangail Superintendent of Police Sarkar Mohammad said the bus with around 24 passengers was heading to Chittagong from Kushtia when a group of 10 robbers with backpacks boarded the bus at midnight at Hatikumrul.
"After taking control of the bus on the Dhaka-Tangail road, they blindfolded passengers and bus staff, tied their hands with ropes, and looted valuables from them, including cash and gold ornaments."
According to the police officer, the accused then gang-raped the female passenger.
The gang fled around 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday after overturning the moving bus in a sand pit.
Locals later rushed to the scene and rescued the passengers.
According to SP Sarkar Mohammad, several teams, including the Detective Branch, are working in the field. "I hope the accused will be apprehended soon."
