KHULNA, Bangladesh - More than 800 BNP leaders and activists have been charged with assaulting Khulna Sadar police station officers during a clash between the Chhatra League and the Chhatra Dal.
On Thursday, Chhatra Dal, a BNP student faction, organized a procession in front of the BNP office in Khulna. The ruling Awami League's student wing, the Chhatra League, also held a march in front of the Awami League office.
The clash erupted when Chhatra Dal leaders and activists allegedly hurled brickbats at their Chhatra League counterparts.
When the skirmish became violent, on-duty police officers attempted to control the situation by firing tear gas shells and rubber bullets.
At least 14 Khulna police officers were injured in the incident.
After the clash, Khulna BNP leader Shafiqul Alam Tuhin and 37 others were detained.
