ISLAMABAD, Pakistan - Sources revealed Saturday that Justice (retired) Maqbool Baqar is at the top of the list of candidates being considered by the government for the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman position.
According to sources, Justice Baqar's name was mentioned during a meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and PPP Chairman Asif Ali Zardari. All coalition government parties agreed that he was the best candidate.
Furthermore, opposition leader Raja Riaz has no objections to Justice Baqar's proposed appointment as NAB chairman.
According to sources, if no obstacles arise, Justice Baqar will be appointed as the next NAB chairman.
Justice Baqar was promoted from the Sindh High Court to the Supreme Court and retired as a Supreme Court judge on April 4, 2022.
According to government sources, Justice Maqbool's judicial record is immaculate.
