MAGWAY, Myanmar - According to the People's Defence Force (PDF), two Myanmar military troops fled their posts in Magway Region's Yesagyo Township and joined the local Force to fight the Junta.
According to the resistance members who took them in, the troops fled from Infantry Battalion 256 on January 18 because, among other things, they were being fed poorly.
"They said they wanted to stand on the people's side, that they didn't even get enough food although they were made to do the dirty work for the generals, and that they were not just joining the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) but also wanted to fight back against the junta," said Wai Gyi, the Yesagyo PDF's leader.
The two deserters were not yet permitted to fight with the PDF. According to the statement, they were transported to a territory controlled by an ethnic armed organization in a remote area. The PDF also stated that it would welcome other junta troops who chose to stand with the people.
